THE TAKING OF PELHAM 1 2 3 by Frank Palmcoast

When he's not watching, with beads of sweat, his fellow, legally blind, senior citizens parallel park, Frank Palmcoast is catching seven dollar movies at the local multiplex from sunny Pompano Beach, Florida. He's retired, he's angry at the world, he can't spell to save his life, and he hates Hollywood almost as much as Hillary Clinton, but that will not stop our irreverent, dementia fightin', AARP card carrying everyman from giving us a fresh take on all things Hollyweird. Besides, how can he pass up that marvelous senior citizen discount?

*****************************************

A fellow native of the Bronx, Palmcoast was eager to sink his manchops into this latest "Hollyweird" remake.

*****************************************

Recently saw the original masterpiece on TV and I thought hollyweird must be thinking,"let's make another remake and make a lot of money" The original was written by a Brooklynite and the new version by hollyweird, west coast and the British, not the same. Robert Shaw as a mercenary out plays Travolta's stock broker and although Denzels performance was good, could never match Mathau's real New Yorkers acting. For me the unnecessary use of the "F" word by Travolta was like a thirteen old trying to impress his peers! This was not the train wreck I was expecting but it certainly looses it's third rail juice before it reaches the station. Jerry Stiller today at 88 looks better than when he was in the original and 53 years old!
Hollyweird should concentrate on making remakes of original bad movies and leave classics like this alone. Two suggestions: screw David Letterman, go see a movie and don't forget to bring home a gallon of milk!

Angels and Demons by Frank Palmcoast

PALMCOAST IS BACK!!!!

**********************************************************

Our senior film critic is back and eager to sink his dentures into all things "Hollyweird." This week - Angels and Demons, the prequel to The DaVinci Code, starring Tom Hanks and directed by Ron Howard.

**********************************************************

Should be retitled, "Silence of the Lambs Meets Jesus"! This movie was waaaaay to long but don't wait too long to see it because it won't be in theaters that long. One might ask oneselves, is the book better than the picture but on the other hand would you prefer to die in a pool or in the ocean"? This flick deals with religion and I must say, it's godawful. Tom Hanks plays Professor Langdon with less passion than the scenery. This movie is a bad version of National Treasure with a Catholic twist. Before anyone gets there cassocks in a twist, since this movie takes place in the Vatican, I must confess I did not read the book. What's with the bags under Hank's eyes, perhaps he should consult with Joan Rivers and find out who are plastic surgeon is. I liked Tom's hair better in "Cast Away".The best part of this movie was watching the trailer of "The Taking of Pelham 1,2,3" and bathroom breaks during this movie are not only allowed but encouraged. The basic problem with this Angels and Demons is in order to get to the final forty minutes you have to endure the first ninety minutes and I consider that cruel and unusual punishment!
The Palmcoast is back!

BEST FILMS OF 2008, TAKEN, and THE VISITOR by Frank Palmcoast

When he's not watching, with beads of sweat, his fellow, legally blind, senior citizens parallel park, Frank Palmcoast is catching seven dollar movies at the local multiplex from sunny Pompano Beach, Florida. He's retired, he's angry at the world, he can't spell to save his life, and he hates Hollywood almost as much as Hillary Clinton, but that will not stop our irreverent, dementia fightin', AARP card carrying everyman from giving us a fresh take on all things Hollyweird. Besides, how can he pass up that marvelous senior citizen discount?

***************************************************

Special treat Palmcoast fans! Our veteran, crack film journalist not only reviews Liam Neeson's return to mainstream cinema, Taken, but also offers up his top films of 2008 and a capsule review of the Oscar nominated - The Visitor.

***************************************************

FRANK PALMCOAST'S TOP 10 FILMS OF 2008

Here is the Palmcoast's picks for the Ten Best Pictures for the year 2008 AD and in their order of importance: #1, Slumdog Millionaire. #2, Grand Torino, #3, Rightious Kill, #4, Yonkers Joe, #5, The Wrestler, #6, Doubt, # 7, The Bucket List, #8, Wild Hogs, #9, You Don't Mess with The Zohan and Last but not least #10, Rambo. Number Ten, Rambo reminded me of when I was in Nam fighten those commies and for everyones information, as we speak they are working on Wild Hogs 2 for 2009. It doesn't get any better than that!

****************************************************

If you have has enough of these depressing Academy Award films you will be rescued and not by Bourne or Bond but by Liam Neeson. There are slim pickens this time of the year, no big block busters but you will be rewarded by this classic action flick. In Taken, Neeson is a revenge seeking missile as a kick-ass action father hero.Having recently seen "Quantum of Solace" this Liam guy puts the new Bond to shame. The rage, the determination, the vengeance of the father was cheered on by the viewers of my show. Even the torture of the very evil guy and the shooting of a woman in the arm demonstrates to this critic, "desperate times , call for desperate measures and sometimes the answer to violent people is violence, perhaps we can learn from this. The so called critics want Benjamin Button movies and Palmcoast's wants"mess with the best and die with the rest".Taken reminds me of say Jack Bauer's saving his daughter, then I feel sorry for the terrorist. A relentless thriller that never ends. This movie is without a doubt preposterous in every way and you know what, I loved it. My two favorite lines from this flick, "I will find you and I WILL kill you and If I have to I WILL tare down the Eiffel Tower". I would give this movie 3 thumbs up but I only have 2. Most movie critics as well as our congressmen have lost their creditability! Put that in your pipe and smoke it!

***************************************************

Just caught The Visitor on On Demand, Movie & Events, All New Releases. Found it interesting, extremely subtle and engrossing. First time for me to see the work of Richard Jenkins. The story line really impressed me and most timely. It affords me a new and different outlook on what's going on today and the many injustices that must occur. More people should see this picture.

SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE by Frank Palmcoast

When he's not watching, with beads of sweat, his fellow, legally blind, senior citizens parallel park, Frank Palmcoast is catching seven dollar movies at the local multiplex from sunny Pompano Beach, Florida. He's retired, he's angry at the world, he can't spell to save his life, and he hates Hollywood almost as much as Hillary Clinton, but that will not stop our irreverent, dementia fightin', AARP card carrying everyman from giving us a fresh take on all things Hollyweird. Besides, how can he pass up that marvelous senior citizen discount?

**********************************************

Palmcoast ventures into very unchartered territory - India of all places!!!! Let's see what our senior reviewer has to say about the sleeper hit of 2008.

**********************************************

Slumdog Millionaire is a Million Dollar winner. The male lead Jamal Malik is the new Forest Gump.Bollywood meets Hollywood. I'm thinking of changing Hollyweird to Toiletwood. This flick simply stated is Oliver Twist and Great Expectations revolving around a TV show "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire unfortunately without Regis. Having seen the road conditions in Mumbai, I'll never complain about traffic conditions in America. This picture is exiting and suspenseful right till the very end.If any one has spoiled kids, take them to see this flick and show them how much of the third world kids live. After seeing Bombay, Pompano Beach is looking REAL GOOD! At times, Jamal and Latika reminded me of Stalone and Aaaaaaadrian. Before seeing this film Grand Torino was my choice but for me Slumdog Millionaire is a SLUMDUNK for Best Picture of The Year. Yes, Yes for Oscar and that's my final answer!

GRAN TORINO by Frank Palmcoast

When he's not watching, with beads of sweat, his fellow, legally blind, senior citizens parallel park, Frank Palmcoast is catching seven dollar movies at the local multiplex from sunny Pompano Beach, Florida. He's retired, he's angry at the world, he can't spell to save his life, and he hates Hollywood almost as much as Hillary Clinton, but that will not stop our irreverent, dementia fightin', AARP card carrying everyman from giving us a fresh take on all things Hollyweird. Besides, how can he pass up that marvelous senior citizen discount?

*******************************************

Fresh and rested from his Southern, California trip, Palmcoast returns with his highly anticipated review of Clint Eastwood's GRAN TORINO

*******************************************

Just back from Hollyweird and saw a GRAND flick titled "Grand Torino" or Dirty Harry when He retires or Archie Bunker meets dirty Harry or the Karate Kid of 2008. And without a doubt, Eastwood is by far my favorite bigot. Eastwood's character Walt Kowalski manages to insult just about everyone, sorta like the front row of a Don Rickles show. This flick is a bad drama or a subtle comedy or perhaps both. This may well be the Last Temptation of Dirty Harry. I had at times had to laugh at Dirty Kowalski squinting and waving his 44 magnum at a bunch of kids or calling a young priest a "27" year old virgin. I found Clint Eastwoods face interesting; it no longer looks weathered as it has for decades but now seems like petrified wood. His Grand Torino was made by the same industry that begs Congress for a hand out, in a city that's bankrupt and a country that can't do anything right anymore except make a movie like this! Yes, Virginia, there is a Walt Kowalski. He exists as sure as Dirty Harry or Archie Bunker. What a dreary world it would be without them!

PS: While in La La Land saw the premier of "Yonker's Joe"--Don't miss it!

VALKYRIE by Frank Palmcoast

When he's not watching, with beads of sweat, his fellow, legally blind, senior citizens parallel park, Frank Palmcoast is catching seven dollar movies at the local multiplex from sunny Pompano Beach, Florida. He's retired, he's angry at the world, he can't spell to save his life, and he hates Hollywood almost as much as Hillary Clinton, but that will not stop our irreverent, dementia fightin', AARP card carrying everyman from giving us a fresh take on all things Hollyweird. ***************************************************

Frank Palmcoast + Tom Cruise + Hitler = a good time. Here is Frank's take on Tom Cruise's latest Valkyrie.

***************************************************

The Palmcoast started out to see "Grand Torino" but it was sold out, so I reluctantly decided to see Tom Cruise's latest. I rightfully thought if the so called Critics panned it, it must be OK. I found Valkyrie to be both entertaining and historically educational. In the very beginning of this flick, I noticed all the Germans were mostly British and Tom with his American ascent playing Colonel Von Stauffenberg. I immediately thought of some better choices to play the main character;Colonel Klink, Val Kilmer or any one of Hogan's heroes but on the other hand I didn't want it done in German with sub titles. The budget I understand ran over and it cost $72 million. Perhaps a few dollars on German speech classes would have been appropriate. Any movie about people banding together for a cause worth dying for is appealing and Valkyrie is exactly that. The music and the cinematography was on target but I wonder how many film goers associate and think this music was pirated from Apocalypse Now and not the music composed by Hitler's favorite composer Rickard Wagner. Brilliant study in cowardice and courage and these Valkyries men were real heroes. For Mr. Mission Impossible he didn't for fill his contract on Hitler. An expensive movie to make but I believe it will be eventually financially sound.Valkyrie took flight and AGAIN most critics were wrong!

Doubt by Frank Palmcoast

When he's not watching, with beads of sweat, his fellow, legally blind, senior citizens parallel park, Frank Palmcoast is catching seven dollar movies at the local multiplex from sunny Pompano Beach, Florida. **************************************************

There is no better reviewer for this subject matter than the BBF's esteemed film aficionado Frank Palmcoast. Frank had spent many a day in his youth alone in a rectory with a priest as an alter boy back in the Bronx. Let us now get his take on the Meryl Streep and Philip Seymour Hoffman flick - Doubt.

**************************************************

There's little doubt about Doubt. Doubt is full of certainty.Originally being from the Bronx and having attended parochial schools I applaud the realism. This film is a mesmerizing story and well worth the journey.Doubt will make you wonder.Hoffman for me was the best priest since Bing. This is undoubtedly a superb cast delivering a wonderful performance.Hoffman, Streep and Amy Adams are terrific and Viloa Davis performance is nothing less than breath taking.Amazingly, I just saw Streep in Mama Mia singing dancing and acting and now this fine performance as a nun. The nuns costumes looked more Pennsylvania Amish than Catholic. I was indeed impressed with their skillful art of truly acting and that this art is very much alive in this age of mediocre acting and special effects. See this movie and you will have no doubt about it's quality!

The Day The Earth Stood Still by Frank Palmcoast

When he's not watching, with beads of sweat, his fellow, legally blind, senior citizens parallel park, Frank Palmcoast is catching seven dollar movies at the local multiplex from sunny Pompano Beach, Florida. He's retired, he's angry at the world, he can't spell to save his life, and he hates Hollywood almost as much as Hillary Clinton, but that will not stop our irreverent, dementia fightin', AARP card carrying everyman from giving us a fresh take on all things Hollyweird. *********************************************************

Don't F**K UP Keanu Reeves! You don't mess with a CLASSIC! Our most distinguished reviewer remembers very clearly the 1951 seminal motion picture directed by Robert Wise. Let's see what Frank has to say about this remake ....

*********************************************************

The Title of this movie should have been: The Day I Sat Still or The Day I Saw A Crap Movie or The Day The Earth Took My Money. To begin with I'm really tired of this broken family BS. The world may be coming to an end and some brat spoiled kid requires a good smack in the puss. Unfortunately the story died but the earth lived. The main alien meets another alien who has been on earth for 70 years and in 5 minutes he decides to rid earth of all humans. This remake really misses the elegance and intelligence of the earlier version and it just uses special effects and action to replace much needed dialog as in the original 1951 classic. This remake is just an action movie. If you saw the trailer of this movie you've already saw the best parts and don't spend your money at the movies. This so called remake is no more that two episodes of the Twilight Zone put together for the big screen at Dunkin Donuts. To tell you the truth all that was missing was Al Gore to come out and preach to us to eliminate all human life to save the planet. If you want to see a movie that destroys the original or if your an Al Gore whacko, this movie is for you. If this movie were bad, it would be better!

QUANTUM OF SOLACE by Frank Palmcoast

When he's not watching, with beads of sweat, his fellow, legally blind, senior citizens parallel park, Frank Palmcoast is catching seven dollar movies at the local multiplex from sunny Pompano Beach, Florida. He's retired, he's angry at the world, he can't spell to save his life, and he hates Hollywood almost as much as Hillary Clinton, but that will not stop our irreverent, dementia fightin', AARP card carrying everyman from giving us a fresh take on all things Hollyweird. *********************************************************

Call him Palmcoast, Frank Palmcoast. Our legendary reviewer tackles a legendary film hero and his latest screen adventure: Quantum of Solace.

*********************************************************

A better title for this feeble Bond attempt would have been "Quantum Of Chaos" or perhaps "Lester the Ape takes On The Bad Guys". This new Bond has done so far in it's opening $30 million more than it's predecessor--FRIGHTENING! The opening sound track really sucked. My 007 traditionally won the day via charm, wit and of course cool gadgets and occasionally a fight but in this Bond wins mainly with violence. For this reviewer this was no more than an action movie with little dialog and a terrible plot. This plot obviously conceived in Starbucks, wants us to believe the villains want to control all the water supply in of all places Bolivia and charge of all people the Bolivians, absorbent amounts of Pesos for their water supply--are you kidding me or what.! Now with Obama becoming our President, how far in the future before Bond will be played by a black man and I ponder how future movie goers will deal with that reality. When producers of Bond were looking for a Bond replacement, my vote was for Danny Divito to assume the role but who listens to me!This new Bond is more like an action hero rather than the smooth, cool spy that we learned to love and enjoy. The casting director who chose Mathieu Malric to play the lead villain looked more like a constipated frog.Noticeably missing were the beautiful woman with the CUTE names. Daniel Craig appeared as a ruthless thug and acted like an ape. I pray that Craig will undoubtedly evolve into a more traditional and more drawn out Bond with some badly needed dialog and more so called, British wit! Your money would be better spent contributing to Ron Paul's presidential campaign!

RIGHTEOUS KILL by Frank Palmcoast

When he's not watching, with beads of sweat, his fellow, legally blind, senior citizens parallel park, Frank Palmcoast is catching seven dollar movies at the local multiplex from sunny Pompano Beach, Florida. He's retired, he's angry at the world, he can't spell to save his life, and he hates Hollywood almost as much as Hillary Clinton, but that will not stop our irreverent, dementia fightin', AARP card carrying everyman from giving us a fresh take on all things Hollyweird. Besides, how can he pass up that marvelous senior citizen discount?

This week ... Palmcoast reviews the latest film from two of the great method actor's of their time: Robert DeBiro and Al Pacino. The film - RIGHTEOUS KILL.

**************************************************

Pacino & Deniro hook up one more time since Heat! I would have named it, "No City For Old Men"! The flick is the same old stuff and the key word is old! Pacino is 68 and Deniro is 65 and what ever happened to the mandatory reirement age in the NYPD? They play detective partners for 30 years and they're like an old married couple. Both actors really look old and should now, at this stage, be behind the camera not in front of it! This married couple connect at the firing range and unlike old married, they still talk ---incessantly. Actually at the firing range the man target they are shooting act looks exactly like Deniro in the movie. But I found pleasure in watching these two faces I've seen for 40 years taske on roles they've aged past and do it with vigor---perhaps their last tango! Rapper 50 Cent plays a drug dealer, badly but Brian Dennehy who is also too old for this part, holds his own but really looks old! There was in this critics view too, too many fascial closeups. Parts of this flic were as empty as a peanut shell. Therefore most of the cast is in the AARP range. I figured out the surprise ending but Deniro and Pacino had excellent chemistry and they played off each other well. Two of America's finest actors and no matter how old they get, I hope they get together for another last hurrah and I suggest a comedy!

TRANSSIBERIAN by Frank Palmcoast

Palmcoast offers up his opinion of Woody Harrelson's new flick Transsiberian.

*********************************************************

Palmcoast had his Labor Day all planned; he was to spend the entire weekend on the beach, armed with his metal detector looking for rare coins and jewelry but then saw the advertisement for Woody Harrelson's new flick "Transsiberian" now that really created a difficult decision! You see, Palmcoast has a love/hate relation with Harrelson; loved him in the tv series Cheers but hated the character he played in "Natural Born Killers" I opted to see This foreign thriller and crime/gangster movie Transsiberian. This similar to Hitchcock flicks is all about an American couple traveling from Beijing to Moscow on the Transsiberian rail line. Harrelson plays his character well and so does Ben Kingsley who plays Grinko a Russian detective with a rather unusual dialect. Emily Mortimer plays his wife an is spectacular in her performance. The train destination is worth the journey. This certainly sends you back to the days and the thinking, don't talk to strangers. This is a good picture, with a great story which clearly stands out from the incredibly mediocre bunch of summer crap that Hollyweird produced for us. This appears to be a low cost, suspenseful flick that relies on the good story instead of Hollyweirds gimmicks and special effects. For those who love slow building and very interesting characters this picture goes by like a flash. This is about normal everyday people in extraordinary circumstances. Hitchcock would be proud!

SWING VOTE by Frank Palmcoast

When he's not watching, with beads of sweat, his fellow, legally blind, senior citizens parallel park, Frank Palmcoast is catching seven dollar movies at the local multiplex from sunny Pompano Beach, Florida. *********************************************************

Frank Palmcoast RETURNS from agonizing knee replacement surgery to cast his vote on Kevin Coster's latest flick
Swing Vote

*********************************************************

As usual, nothing much happening at the movies. So instead of watching Matlock reruns, we saw Kevin Costner's newest picture and Costner's newest toupee! Many stars in this one: Dennis Hopper, Nathan Lane, Kelsey Grammer,Tucci, George Lopez, Judge Reinhold and many guest appearances like Willie Nelson, Richard Petty and by the way Petty looked like he died and they forgot to bury him! Without a doubt Madeline Carrol stole the entire movie! Governor Bill Richardson can't be to happy the way the movie shows that everyone in New Mexico lives in Mobile homes and that's not completely true, they also live in tents! It's hard to believe hollyweird allowed no violence, no sex, no nudity and no real vulgar language! I suppose this flick is a satire about our political system. Typically hollyweird presents the presumption that only liberals want world peace, a clean environment and a better economy for the poor. I believe this is a delightful movie and it should be seen by our current presidential candidates. The character that Costner plays, Bud is a felon and felons don't vote and also one man cannot determine the end results, only the electoral college can determine the outcome. This film does projects certain themes: drunkenness, child abuse and neglect, political waste, a sad commentary about America but true! We think we, America lead the free world and we have on of the lowest voter turnouts. We have been invaded by Mexico, we allowed an illegal war, our useless congress and government is running up the national debt by trillions of dollars, a very weeken dollar, stupid health care, the dumbing down of our education system and this movie was making fun of America and rightly so! This is a must if you want to see how George Bush got elected. If you are part of this dumbing down in America, don't go to see this picture---you may have to think! Swing Vote got my vote!

YOU DON'T MESS WITH THE ZOHAN by Frank Palmcoast

When he's not watching, with beads of sweat, his fellow, legally blind, senior citizens parallel park, Frank Palmcoast is catching seven dollar movies at the local multiplex from sunny Pompano Beach, Florida. He's retired, he's angry at the world, he can't spell to save his life, and he hates Hollywood almost as much as Hillary Clinton, but that will not stop our irreverent, dementia fightin', AARP card carrying everyman from giving us a fresh take on all things Hollyweird. Besides, how can he pass up that marvelous senior citizen discount?

**************************************************

Firstly I must say this film is a good and a bad movie. If you are a lame ass with no sense of humor, stay home. This flick is a slap stick, bathroom humored comedy with a political twist. With over 2000 years of fighting going on in the Middle East, this flick ask the question, how come we can get along in America and not in the middle East? As crude as this movie is, it's certainly better than that "Borat" piece of garbage! There were a lot of cameo by other actors and I enjoy the performances of Rob Schnieder, Shelly Berman and especially Lanie Kazan. The heart throb of Sandler, a gorgeous, outstanding looker named Emmanvelle Chiriqui was visually outstanding. Rob Schneider was a cab driving Palestinian nincompoop and Ido Mosseri as the fast talking Israeli who runs the typical, "Going Out Of Business" electronic stores that we seen for years in New York City. The bad guys aren't the Israeli's or the Palestinians but are the red necks and the white coller CEO's who are looking to displace these foreign outsiders. Believe it or not, this shameless flicks eagerness to get laughs from every possible way states that you either enjoy it or not and shamefully I found myself enjoying it most of the time. I guess there is a small part of me that loves the people who invented the whoopee cushion. This Zoran hero reminds me of Warren Beatty in "Shampoo"! The love of Pariah Carey and her feeble at temp to sing the start only, thank God, of the Star Spangled Banner, mystifies me. For me the highlight of every mans fantasy was Adam Sandlers seduction of Lainie Kazan and her nude, huge, Derriere-UGH! Sandler works as hard as Jerry Lewis ever did and all I kept thinking at the end of this picture was "bless me father for I have sinned as I laughed my ass off"!

INDIANA JONES AND THE KINGDOM OF THE CRYSTAL SKULL by Frank Palmcoast

When he's not watching, with beads of sweat, his fellow, legally blind, senior citizens parallel park, Frank Palmcoast is catching seven dollar movies at the local multiplex from sunny Pompano Beach, Florida. He's retired, he's angry at the world, he can't spell to save his life, and he hates Hollywood almost as much as Hillary Clinton, but that will not stop our irreverent, dementia fightin', AARP card carrying everyman from giving us a fresh take on all things Hollyweird. Besides, how can he pass up that marvelous senior citizen discount?

Frank Palmcoast recently went under the knife in a Florida hospital. He has recuperated and is back in tip top reviewing shape. He wants to thank all his fans who wrote cards and letters to the BBF. His recovery wouldn't have been as speedy without them!

***************************************************

Firstly, someone has to shorten this title! Don't go to this movie looking for something more than a two hour ride of both humor, adventure and exitement.Indiana Jones perfectly fits Harrison like a glove. It has been 19 years and now Indiana Jones is much older but his homor and demeanor are intact.Harrison Ford is old enough to pay senior citizen price at his own summer block buster. Right from the beginning you see his famous Fedora, the one that stays put through every tricky situation. Ford certainly seems up to the challenge or at least his stunt double does. There is a ton of great moments and these moments will remind you of all the fun in the first three. This Indiana Jones is no Raiders of the Lost Arc but if you look at the History of most sequels, this has to rank among the most respectable. This Crystal Skull they are looking for looks like Larry King without the suspenders. For me, other than Harrison the three other stars are Spielberg, Lucas and let's not forget John Williams for his infamous Raiders music and it's call to adventure and when it's sounded
it tells us fun is just ahead and good luck on getting this theme out of your head. Ford still remains dashing in his fedora and he can still crack his bullwhip. Now Indiana Jones will slip into the history of film like Rocky Balboa. John Rambo & John McCain safe in the knowledge that he goes out at the top of his game. Does Harrison Ford sucessfully repeat, yes he CANNES!
Palmcoast here!
PS: Some additional questions from Palmcoast:1) Why do the police always tell vicious criminals to watch their heads while placing them in police vehicles? 2) Car dealers advertise cars for say $199.00 per month but in the small prints you have to put $5,000 at the inception? 3) Why when riots occur, do the rioteers always burn and destroy cars? 4)We are always told to hit the SAP button on your remote, where is that on the remote?5) Palmcoast is sick of seeing Ed McMahon and his Premier Walk-in Baths! 6) Why are all the Miss Universes from this plannet? Last but not least--Giuseppi Franco--enough said!

IRON MAN by Frank Palmcoast

When he's not watching, with beads of sweat, his fellow, legally blind, senior citizens parallel park, Frank Palmcoast is catching seven dollar movies at the local multiplex from sunny Pompano Beach, Florida. He's retired, he's angry at the world, he can't spell to save his life, and he hates Hollywood almost as much as Hillary Clinton, but that will not stop our irreverent, dementia fightin', AARP card carrying everyman from giving us a fresh take on all things Hollyweird. Besides, how can he pass up that marvelous senior citizen discount?

This week .... Palmcoast takes on a superhero!

*****************************************************

I chose Iron Man as my starter film for the summer season. In the past I saw other hero films like Superman, Batman and Spiderman but Iron Man was by far the best of these Marvel comic hero's. Iron Man is entertaining with very little boring moments and I think all ages will enjoy this flick. Robert Downey is fine as is Jeff Bridges who plays the villain. I couldn't happen to wonder if the Coen Brothers tittled this movie it would have been called, "No Country For Iron Men". Like all first superhero movies Iron Man takes an in-depth look at Iron Mans beginnings. This movie is visually spectacular and has the perfect amount of build up so you don't feel like you missed any four play and you still get your rocks off. There are also quite a few laughs out loud throughout the movie. Iron man is Ironclad. I went to see this flick with low expectations and I was pleasantly surprised. Iron Man was MARVELous!
This flick is like Campbell soup, Mn, Mn, good.FYI at the end of the movie stay for the end of the credits and a famous Actor makes an appearance as Nick Fury, Director of S.H.I.E.L.D and therefore the next sequel titled the Avenger. Downey, from rehab back to icon! This should have been released for July 4th and now onto Indiana Jones!

This week's victim: George Cloonery's Leatherheads

*************************************************

As Shakespear would say," Leatherheads or Knuckleheads" this is the question and this flick has a little of both! I ponder who are the targeted audiences for this movie; sports fans, history buffs, Clooney fans, comedy fans, I wonder. This is a sports, comedy and period piece. A film about the birth of football. Leatherheads probably has fewer dull moments than an actual NFL game.Clooney, Zellweger and Krasinski are ok. For me it's rather humorous that Renee Zellweger's characters name is Lexlie Littleton--what names! The witty banter between Clooney and Zellweger was reminiscent of Tracy and Hepburn. So far the above was the good news and now the bad news. Soon the DVD will be released. They should skip Blockbusters & Netflix and go straight to the Dollar Store and I bet you will want your dollar back. This movie moves slowly at times but it never really becomes dull or boring, so let's just say it's cute and mild. However I must say Randy Newman's ragtime music is great.Clooney in this football period piece goes for a touchdown and only scores a field goal. The movie ends with the two of them riding off into the sunset just like Roy and Dale! One of the main characters name is bullet and at times I wish I had one so I could put myself out of this misery!

THE SAVAGES by Frank Palmcoast

The Savages starring Philip Seymour Hoffman and Laura Linney.

********************************************

This movie is a how to flick; it teaches one how to function in a dysfunctional family. Right from the start I must say Philip Seymore Hoffman, an actor 10 years ago I never even heard of, is marvelous in his role as the brother and as a Professor who really acts and looks like a professor. Normally, Hollyweird would have someone like a Tom Cruise, put horn rim glasses on him and expect the audience to accept his professor role. Laura Linney is also perfect as the sister but I must say the other Philip in the movie with the last name Bosco steals a lot of the praise. Anyone with aging parents will definitely identify with this flick and reminds all of us to ponder what we will be called on to do when our parents get old. This is a quality movie with a quality cast and quite refreshing for a change. Unfortunately a movie with a good story, fine acting, timely humor and truly a touching drama does not sell here in America and never received the advertising and promotion it deserves. Dumb movies like Knocked Up and the latest bunch of junk from Will Farrel get the advertising and promotional bucks. You certainly will not be fighting huge crowds to see this fine movie but you'll wonder why not!

THE BANK JOB by Frank Palmcoast

When he's not watching, with beads of sweat, his fellow, legally blind, senior citizens parallel park, Frank Palmcoast is catching seven dollar movies at the local multiplex from sunny Pompano Beach, Florida. Besides, how can he pass up that marvelous senior citizen discount?

This week ... The Bank Job starring Jason Stratham and Saffron Burrows.

**********************************************

Obviously this was a British bank heist movie. Jason Statham is certainly not a great actor in any sense of the word but then again, most actors aren't either. What I found interesting is how the British police, the government and the underworld interact. It's the underworld meets the overworld! The numerous scenes of sex and nudity didn't really add anything to the story.Plenty of action and political intrigue and all the characters are believable in their roles. This movie is put together nicely and it keeps you thinking and hoping the bank robbers get away with it. Many thrills and suspense and it injects humor at the right times. I liked the fact that it wasn't predictable and it's based on a true story. Excellent from beginning to end. Well done, well done!!! Go see this one.

VANTAGE POINT and OSCAR picks by Frank Palmcoast

When he's not watching, with beads of sweat, his fellow, legally blind, senior citizens parallel park, Frank Palmcoast is catching seven dollar movies at the local multiplex from sunny Pompano Beach, Florida. This week ... Frank is anything but shy in giving his point of view of Vantage Point.

********************************************************
Vantage Point was a big disadvantage! I am sure glad we had free tickets because this flick should have been made for TV. This could have had an interesting story line but the story became tedious and the 90 minutes became a weak. I memorized the Spanish Mayor,s speech after seeing it repeated a half dozen times. Repeating the same basic scenes over and ever became boring. The cast was OK: Sigorney Weaver as a cool news producer had a VERY short role; John Hurt played a president well and I thought that Trees Whitaker played an American tourist very well and believable. All the main characters repeat their rolls like a bad burrito!. The ending doesn't pay off and it leaves the audience with more unanswered questions than the Warren Commission. Never mind assassinating the president they should have assassinated the movie!

Frank Palmcoast's SELECTED OSCAR picks for 2007

As the senior Movie and Music critic for the Palmaire Gazette I must approach my selections from a PROFESSIONAL view. Having said that I must also note that in my humble opinion, three GREAT and NOT nominated films were omitted for consideration! Namely, Rambo, Wild Hogs and the blockbuster, Witless Protection. Best Actor---will go to DDL for the "There will be Blood or better known as "There will Be Boring'! I believe and enjoyed Johnny Depp and his excellent performance in Sweeney Todd and he proved once again his multi talents. Best Director will go to the Coen's who don't even know how to spell there names. Best Movie will go to "No Country For Old Men and it proved it was no picture for old men because we all walked out totally disappointed with another terrible ending! Best Supporting should go to Josh Brolin because Streisand has been supporting him for years! We saw La Vie En Rose but it was only about an actress who was imitating Judy Garland and her speaking English was terrible and who gives a rats ass for the French! I never go see a Chic flick so that choice is rather difficult for me. As far as best song, there hasn't been a good song since Chariots of Fire and generally I am never impressed with the music worlds feeble attempts at this medium.

THERE WILL BE BLOOD and UNTRACEABLE by Frank Palmcoast

When he's not watching, with beads of sweat, his fellow, legally blind, senior citizens parallel park, Frank Palmcoast is catching seven dollar movies at the local multiplex from sunny Pompano Beach, Florida. He's retired, he's angry at the world, he can't spell to save his life, and he hates Hollywood almost as much as Hilary Clinton, but that will not stop our irreverent, dementia fightin', AARP card carrying everyman from giving us a fresh take on all things Hollyweird. Besides, how can he pass up that marvelous senior citizen discount?

This week the veteran movie reviewer of The Palm Aire Gazette spills some "blood" in this ever opinionated review of Daniel Day Lewis and Diane Lane's new films.

**********************************************

There will be blood should have been titled "There will be boring"!. Let me begin by saying, "A great actor does not make a great movie"! Daniel Day Lewis is terrific and compelling and for me he redid some of the roll he captured in "Gangs Of New York" Paul Dano was also good playing the duel rolls of Eli and Paul. Now I completely understand why the music was not up for an academy award---it sucked and I now no why his son loss his hearing--he listened to the sound track of the movie! Half way through this movie(that's around 4 hours) I asked my wife for a divorce because she recommended this awful picture. The title of this boring, over rated flick promised us blood, I just didn't realize it was from the people in the audience slitting their wrists. If you like political conventions your going to love this picture because it too has no substance, plenty of oil tycoons and holly rollers. I thought I was in New Mexico with all the dirt and dust. This is another example of a movie for critics, movie makers and Hollyweird but not for us foke, the audience. Half the movie going people left and the rest wanted their money back because the critics, AGAIN were terribly wrong. Lately when I leave a movie I utter the same review words, : What the Hell Was That""
Simply stated, this was a movie of an oil man who was an alcoholic that wanted to control the world, does that sound like our President or not! I and The main character did have something in common, by the end of the movie I hated everyone! What a waste of the three hours at this movie and at my age I can't afford to waste too many hours. On a scale of 1 to 100, I would give this a 10. It had no story, no music, no point and no entertainment value and I would have been better off at the city garbage dump watching it putrefy and it would stink less. This movie was slower than my 100 year old Grandmother and shes been dead for 10 years! I couldn't wait for the credits to roll and the best thing about the ending IS IT ENDED! This film about oil wells was more of a dry hole than a gusher!

***********************************************

Untraceable is a serial killer mystery and at times I wish it was UNTRACEABLE! Diane Lane and Colin Hanks are really good as FBI employees who investigate and prosecute criminals on the Internet. The serial killer is a computer genius who shows graphically all his murders on his web site and the victims fate is left in the hands of the public computer users. Not bad thriller with suspense and I guess this film is a Silence of the Lambs of the Internet age. The detective played by Billy Burke was not convincing in his role and Joseph Cross who had a great opportunity playing the serial killer did not take advantage of this gift--I would have preferred Colin Hanks to play that part. The actual killings are pretty original, quite intense. The film had a terrible ending like so many other movies I've recently scene and believe the Soprano's originated. At times I felt that I should have stayed home and sorted my sock drawer but Diane Lane did sound cute with her newly acquired geek speaking. I would wait until it comes out on cable and don't waste your money on a DVD rental!
