CHARLIE WILSON'S WAR by Frank Palmcoast

When he's not watching, with beads of sweat, his fellow, legally blind, senior citizens parallel park, Frank Palmcoast is catching seven dollar movies at the local multiplex from sunny Pompano Beach, Florida. He's retired, he's angry at the world, he can't spell to save his life, and he hates Hollywood almost as much as Hilary Clinton, but that will not stop our irreverent, dementia fightin', AARP card carrying everyman from giving us a fresh take on all things Hollyweird. Besides, how can he pass up that marvelous senior citizen discount?

This week - his take on Charlie Wilson's War.

**************************************************

As a preference to my review of Tom Hank's latest I have to say that all actors have films in their careers that are outstanding, like Forest Gump, Apollo 13, Saving Private Ryan and my favorite Philadelphia and on the other hand films that are not outstanding such as Lady Killers, The Davinci Code, Terminal and his worst, Bonfire of the Vanities and I'm afraid his latest falls into the later class. I must say Charlie's War is entertaining but to say it's based on a true story is really stretching it. A lot of this Hollywierd is nothing more than liberal tripe. An awful lot of partisan BS from Hollyweird and much liberal distortion of history. It wants us to believe that this immoral, womanizing drunken idiot alone took on the Russians and single handily defeated the most powerful nation by himself! President Reagan and none of his administration had anything to do with it. Many times Hank's Texas accent sounds like Forrest Gump. I really thought Philip Seymore Hoffman was terrific and he and Tom stole the show. This film actually blames America for the Taliban and sorta states that we then deserved 911. I guess Hollyweird knows that another of the so called war movies may do bad in America but will be financially successful around the rest of the world.

I'm inclined to agree -and while many an immoral, womanizing drunkard has indeed changed things significantly during various historical periods, (for better or worse can be determined by the individual), I really can't believe it of Tom Hanks.
